RESOLUTION NO. 9231
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN AND SALARY SCHEDULE OF THE CITY TO REVISE THE CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE PREVENTION OFFICER 111.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs, that the
classification of Fire Prevention Officer I11 should be revised in the City's
C1 assi f ication P1 an.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to
revise the classification of Fire Prevention Officer 111, as described in
Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part thereof.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of
the City of Carlsbad on the 8th day of September , 1987, by the following
vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Pettine, Mamaux and Larson

FIRE PREVENTIOM OFFICER I11
Under general direction, supervises Fire Prevention Officers I and 11, conducts
plan review of fire protection systems and equipment, conducts fire prevention inspections of a difficult or highly technical nature, conducts fire cause and
arson investigations, and does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class receive direction directly from the Fire Marshal and may be called upon to supervise Fire Prevention Officer I and I1 positions.
Incumbents in this class will have extensive experience in the areas of fire
inspections, fire investigations and public fire education, and will have a
working knowledge of the fire codes and standards generally in use throughout
California.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervise Fire Prevention Officer I and I1 positions.
Interpret building and fire protection system plans, building and fire codes.
Conduct plan review of industrial , commercial, special hazard occupancies of the fire protection systems and equipment.
Perform fire prevention inspections on complex industrial, commercial and
residential structures.
Conduct fire cause and arson investigations.
Keep inspection records and prepare reports.
Assist with the supervision and training related to the engine company
inspect ion program.
Confer with engineers, contractors, homeowners and others concerning fire and
hazard prevention problems and requirements.
Conduct fire safety education
Serve as Acting Fire Marshal.
