A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION
PLAN AND SALARY SCHEDULE OF THE CITY TO ADOPT THE
CLASSIFICATION OF COMMUNITY ARTS COORDINATOR.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs, t

COMMUNITY ARTS COORDINATOR
DEFINITION
Under direct supervision, to perform professional, technical and administrativc work involved in coordinating community arts education programs and special events, and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for community arts programming.
Assist in budget preparation, analysis and administration.
Chair community advisory committees and represent the City in the community an( at professional conferences and meetings as required.
Research, prepare, monitor, and evaluate applications for funding assistance il the pub1 i c/pri vate sectors.
Supervise artist-in-community program.
Prepare complete reports and make presentations related to community art: programming.
Plan and implement educational/participatory programs to stimulate and maintail community participation in the arts.
Supervise train and evaluate assigned staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Know1 edqe of:
Principles of organization, administration, budget, and personnel management.
Vi sua1 and Performing Arts.
Principles and practices of arts administration including promoting, gran proposal writing, producing special events and knowledge of instructional method in a public school system.
Abi 1 i tv to:
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in th course of work.
Arrange and coordinate special events.

Learn personal computer programs including spreadsheets and word processing.
Photograph arts events as needed.
Solve unexpected problems unique to arts programming.
Attend evening and weekend events as required.
ExPeri ence and Education
Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required know1 edge and abil i ties would be qual ifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abil ities would be:
Experience: Two years of administrative, budgeting, or other management analysis experience of which one year was involved in coordinating a visual or performing arts program in the community.
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college 01 university with major work in arts administration, fine arts, public administration, or related field. A master degree in arts administratiol or related field is desirable.
