A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROPRIATING $13,056 FROM THE
GENERAL FUND CONTINGENCY BALANCE TO SUPPORT
SANDAG’s SHORELINE EROSION COMMITTEE FOR THE
CONTINUATION OF THE ANNUAL REGIONAL SHORELINE
MONITORING PROGRAM AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LONG
TERM BEACH REPLENISHMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the San Diego Association of Government’s (SANDAG) Short
Preservation Strategy and related state and federal analysis has shown that the region’s beac
provide important recreation benefits, economic growth through the tourism they sup1
considerable local, state and federal government revenues, and the protection of PI
infrastructure and private development from storm damage; and
WHEREAS, the beaches are a natural resource of state and national significance w
contribute in many ways to the quality of life in our region; and
WHEREAS, the SANDAG and the Shoreline Erosion Committee have requested
local coastal jurisdictions in the San Diego region participate in funding the Annual Regi
Shoreline Monitoring Program and the development of a proposal for a Long Term BI 11 Replenishment Program; and
17 11 WHEREAS, the Annual Regional Shoreline Monitoring Program will document 18
benefits of beach replenishment projects and help make the case for the importance of fi
replenishment efforts; and

WHEREAS, the Long Term Beach Replenishment Program will identify the neces
program and projects, costs and benefits, environmental, economic and enginec
considerations, and a financing and implementation strategy to accomplish the objectives o
Shoreline Preservation Strategy; and

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Carlsb:
participate in funding programs which will further promote the betterment of our local coastlin
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carl5

2. That it is the best interest of the City of Carlsbad to participate in the funding o
Annual Regional Shoreline Monitoring Program and the development of a proposal for 1
Term Beach Replenishment Program.
3. That the City Council appropriate $13,056 from the General Fund Contingc
balance to be applied to the above mention programs.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Co
held on the 3rd day of June , I997 by the following vote, to wit:
