RESOLUTION NO. 98-175
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA,
IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION L, AS PLACED ON THE MARCH 2,
1999 BALLOT BY THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY REGIONAL LIBRARY
AUTHORITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ASKING THE VOTERS OF SAP
FOR FIVE YEARS ONLY TO BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR LIBRARY
IMPROVEMENTS.
DIEGO COUNTY TO CONSIDER A ONE-QUARTER CENT SALES TA
WHEREAS, the citizens of Carlsbad rely on their libraries for a varie
services; and
WHEREAS, libraries serve youngsters from pre-school to college, par
and seniors, as well as businesses; and
WHEREAS, current funding levels are insufficient to provide for esse
library programs and operations; and
WHEREAS, the library is a vital part of our community; and
WHEREAS, a sales tax increase of one-quarter cent for a period of
years would generate an estimated $19.8 million over 5 years for the p
libraries in the City of Carlsbad; and
WHEREAS, the San Diego County Regional Library Authority has votc
place before the voters of San Diego County on the March 2, 1999 ball
measure to consider a sales tax to be used exclusively for library purposes; ar
WHEREAS, the San Diego County Regional Library Authority
requested that each member city formally support the approval of the library I
tax initiative; and
WHEREAS, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has deterrr
that this measure shall be known as Proposition "L";

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Cii
Carlsbad, California, as follows;
I, That the above recitations are true,
2. That the City Council of Carlsbad hereby supports Proposition L, an(
urges the voters of Carlsbad to vote yes on this measure when it is
presented to them on March 2, 1999.
3. That the City Council of Carlsbad urges all cities within the San Dieg
County Area to support Proposition L.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, at a regular meeting held on the 1
day of June , 1998, by the following vote, to wit:
