2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
DIRECTOR TO APPROVE AND APPROPRIATE POLICE STATE ASSET
4 FORFEITURE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,000 FOR THE
PURCHASE OF A POLICE CANINE.

^ WHEREAS, the Police Department maintains four canines as part of their patrol force; and

WHEREAS, one dog is assigned to each ofthe four patrol shifts, providing officers with the

searching and apprehension support a canine provides; and

WHEREAS, one of the canines is experiencing a quick decline in his health and
11 performance, sooner than was predicted; and
12 WHEREAS, the Police Department needs to replace this canine; and
WHEREAS, police state asset forfeiture funds are available for the purchase of a canine;

funds Is not supplanting and is allowed.
18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California,
^9 as follows that:

1. The above recitations are true and correct.

2. The cost of a new canine, including accessories, and sales tax is $10,000. Use of
22
state asset forfeiture funds is allowable (not supplanting), because canines have not been
24 purchased via the General Fund.
25 3. The Administrative Services Director is authorized to appropriate police asset
26 forfeiture funds totaling $10,000 and to approve the purchase of a police canine.

of Carlsbad on the 11th day of November 2014, by the following vote to wit:
