Dear Ms. McPherson,
{city of
Carlsbad
On behalf of the City of Carlsbad, we appreciate the opportunity to apply for membership in the
AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. Our leadership recognizes the rapidly
growing 55+ population in our community and has shown consistent leadership in creating an
inclusive place for all ages.
With nearly seven miles of coastline, three lagoons, world class resorts, family attractions, well-
planned neighborhoods, a diverse and innovative economy and a charming village atmosphere,
the City of Carlsbad is one of the most desirable places to live and work in California. It is also a
place that recognizes changing demographics and the rapidly aging nature of our residents. In
San Diego County, Carlsbad is a community that will see a greater concentration of our 55+
population than some other areas in our region. As a part of our on-going commitment to
create a place that is welcoming to residents and visitors, the city is excited by the opportunity
to join a global network of cities that are focused on creating age-friendly communities.
Consider this letter our strong commitment to continue along the path of creating an age-
friendly city for all. If approved, we lo'ok forward to participating with AARP and other peer-
cities as we employ strategies and practices that enhance the wonderful City of Carlsbad.
