RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT
URGING VOTERS TO VOTE "NO"
ON NUCLEAR INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT provides all
of the water requirements for the residents of and the land with-
in CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT, through the San Diego
County Water Authority; and
WHEREAS, all of the water delivered by the San Diego
County Water Authority must be lifted a minimum of 1,600 feet in
order to reach the San Diego County area; and
WHEREAS, all pump lifts on the water supply system serv-
ing the San Diego County Water Authority are dependent upon the
availability of electrical energy for their operation; and
__ WHEREAS, the electrical energy input to the pumps serving
San Diego County Water Authority will require a significant
quantity of electrical energy; and
WHEREAS, this significant quantity of electrical energy
must be made available to the pumps of San Diego County Water
Authority in order to provide the water required by the water
users in CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT; and
WHEREAS, reliable forecasts of the demand for electrical
energy indicate that additional general capacity is required to
meet the needs of the United States, California, San Diego and
Carlsbad; and
WHEREAS, without the addition of new sources of electri-
cal energy there will be shortages which will reduce the electri-
tal energy available to pump water; and

WHEREAS, environmental problems are being identified with
all known systems for developing new sources of electrical energy
including oil, coal, hydro, geothermal, nuclear and others; and
WHEREAS, the Nuclear Initiative to be voted on by the
electorate of the State of California in June, 1976 will, if
approved, foreclose one of the options available to producers of
electrical energy.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF CARLSBAD MUNI-
CIPAL WATER DISTRICT DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
1. The Nuclear Initiative poses a threat to water users
in San Diego County and CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT.
2. The Board of Directors of CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER
DISTRICT urge the voters of CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT to
vote "NO" on the Nuclear Initiative.

of CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT, DO HEREBY CERTIFY that the
foregoing Resolution was duly adopted by the Board of Directors
of CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT at a regular meeting of said
Board held on the 17th day of December, 1975, and that it was so
adopted by the following vote:
AYES : Directors: Carmichael, Engelmann, Kelly,
McLeod and Maerkle
NOES : Directors: None.
ABSENT : Directors: None.
