RESOLUTION NO. 602.
A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD REQUESTING SUSPENSION OF PRO-
POSED' OFF-.SHORE DRILLING. .. . .

1. The natural environment and the. amenities attributed
the off-shore .area of the City of Carlsbad are res.ources which
must be sustained in thei'r natural state.
2.. The .quality of -the 'ocean environment is endangered by
drilling or exploration activities which have recently desecra
the Santa Barbara off-sho.re and beach area.
3. There .is always .a possibility that oil -drilling or ex
ation which 'is presently being conducted off the North San Die'
County shore may strike ail.bearing strata under high pres.sure
there is no guarantee from responsible 'government agencies. tha
have be.en taken to avoid a repetition of the recent Santa Barbl
~ catastrophe.
~ requests imn-ediate suspension of the 'operation of the exploratt
oil drilling and core testing rig located just outs.ide the off,
limits .of the City of Oceanside until such 'time as adequate 'sa:
guards against ocean and beach pollution can be established by
state and federal agencies.
