HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-10-24; Planning Commission; Resolution 849r .j JB J 1 2 3 PLANNING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 849 A RESOLUTION OF THE CARLSBAD CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OPPOSING JET AIRPORT FACILITIES AT CAMP PENDLETON AND OPPOSING MAJOR EXPANSION OF PALOMAR AIRPORT. 41) 5 WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors and 0th 6 seek to create a large jet airport facility at Camp Pendleto 7 WHEREAS, the construction of such a jet airport would p 8 the following serious adverse consequences: I, 9 10 1. The construction of such a jet airport facilit would effectively place an Orange County problem u lli 12, San Diego County citizens; 2. A jet airport facility would deprive the Pendl 1311 Marine Base of essential training areas which are 14 15 le ii I.y II necessary for present and future national defense; 3. Such a jet airport and all of the related faci which would be necessary for its operation, would massive and as yet unknown environmental consequen 18 deprive the entire SouthernCalifornia area of one 19 4. Such a facility, if built at Camp Pendleton, w 20 21 22 23 the last existing urban green buffer areas which s exists between Orange and San Diego County; 5. Would irreparably damage an existing ecologica preserve at Camp Pendleton, and, 24 I WHEREAS, there are similar forces presently working wit 25 undertaken at Palomar FLirport, 29 the entire Carlsbad and surrounding area if such an expansio 28 WHEREAS, similar adverse consequences would be imposed 27 airport facility, and 26 view of expanding Pa1otna.p Airport facilities into a major je 30 I BE IT RESOLVED that the Carlsbad City Planning Commissil 31- 32 does, for the above stated reasons, deem the construction of large airport facility at Camp Pendleton and the expansion o r. ._ a 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 €3 9 10 11 12 i Palomar Airport into a major jet facility to be contrary to best interests of the public at large and contrary in partic to the interests of all citizens of San Diego County within both areas are located, and this Commission does hterefore 5 ously urge that each of these projects not be undertaken nov anytime in the future. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the Carlsbad City Planr Commission at a regular meeting of the Commission held on tk 24th day of October, 1972, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Commissioners Jose, Dominguez, Forman, Norman anc Little NOES: None ABSENT: Commissioners Dewhurst and Palmateer 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32
