SECTION 18.12.2 35 AMENDING TEE MATION3.L
ELECTRICAL CODE IN REGARD '20 GROUND-FAULT
CIRCUIT PROTECTION
CALIFORNIA MENDING CHAPTEIi I 8.12 OF TEE

WIIEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, Cali-
fornia has adopted for use in the City of Carlsbad the National
Electri.ca1 Code of 1971; and
WHEREAS, said Code contains certain requirements in
regard to ground-fault circuit protection for personnel; and
WHEREAS, the Occupational Safety and Health Administra-
tion who sponsorei! the. inclusion of that requirement in the
National Electrical Code has decided to hold the effective date
of said requirenent in abeyance pending further study; and
YHFRFAS, the Occupational Safety and Health Ad.ministration
has found that the construction industry cannot cotqly with the
requirement because the necessary equiprnent is not be.i.ng manu-
factured;. and
WE-IEREAS, if the Municipal Code is not amended to delete
said requirement on the urgency basis the result will be a serious
di.sruption in all on-going construction projects within the City
of Carlsbad,
NO\?, TEIEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
California does ordain as follows:
SECTION -- 1: Chapter 18.12 of the Municipal Code is amended
by the addition of Section 18.12.236 to read as follows:
"13.12.236, -- Article 210-7 II amended ground-fault circuit --
protection €or personnel. -
Article 210-7 of the National Electric1 Code is amended
by the deletion of the last paragraph regard.iny ground-
fault circiiit. protection for personnel. "
EFFECTIVE DATE : This Ordinance shall be effective i?medi--
ately upon passage. The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad sb.,EL

certify to the adoption o.? this Ordinance and cause it to be pub-
lished once in the Carlsbad Journal 37ithin fifteen (15) days after
its adoption.
