HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-03-18; City Council; 1177; CALPERS Board & City contract amendment & police communicators1 2 7 U 4 5 6 7 e 9 IC 11 12 12 14 15 16 17 1E 19 2c 21 24 22 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 ORDINANCE NO. 11 77 AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA AS AN URGENCY MEASURE AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION OF THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM TO ALLOW CERTAIN POLICE COMMUNI- CATORS TO ELECT TO BE SAFETY MEMBERS OF SAID SYSTEM. The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, ioes ordain as follows: SECTION 1: That an amendment to the Contract between :he City Council of the City of Carlsbad and the Board of idministration, California Public Employees' Retirement System -s hereby authorized, a copy of said amendment being attached iereto, marked "Exhibit A", and by such reference made a part iereof as though herein set out in full. SECTION 2: The Mayor of the City of Carlsbad is hereby iuthorized, empowered, and directed to execute said amendment for ind on behalf of said Agency. SECTION 3: This ordinance is adopted pursuant to the ruthority vested in the City of Carlsbad pursuant to California ;overnment Code Sections 36934 and 36937 and is hereby declared :o be an urgency ordinance. The facts constituting the urgency ire as follows: "The police communicators of the City of Carlsbad have an opportunity to be designated local police safety employees of the Public Employees Retire- ment System. Such a designation constitutes a significant economic benefit to such employees. It is also morale factor which will directly affect the efficiency of the Police Department. Such oppor- tunity will be lost if the contract with the Retirement System is not amended by April 1, 1975. There is not sufficient time to accomplish the amendment unless it is immediately approved, which requires an urgency ordinance."
