ORDINANCE NO. 9798
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 9660 AND SPECIFIC PLAN
186, TO ALLOW A FREEWAY-ORIENTED, FREESTANDING SIGN
IDENTIFYING TOURIST-ORIENTED USES ON PROPERTY GENERALLY
LOCATED AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF POINSETTIA LAME AND
AVENIDA ENCINAS. APPLICANT: ECONOMY INNS CASE NO.: SP-186(A)
sdopted thereby, is hereby amended.
SECTION 2: That the findings of the Planning Commission
contained in Resolution No. 2532 constitute the findings of the City
Council in this matter.
SECTION 3: That amended Specific Plan 186(A) is approved
subject to all applicable requirements of the Carlsbad Municipal
15Code and to the satisfaction of the conditions imposed by previous
approvals of said plan.
SECTION 4: That Specific Plan SP-186, dated October 13,
1982, as adopted by Ordinance No. 9660 is hereby amended as shown or

EFFECTIVE DATE: This Ordinance shall be effective thirty
ays after its adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify to the
doption of this Ordinance and cause it to be published at least
nce in the Carlsbad Journal within fifteen days after its

Section (G) (1 ) presently reads as:
Freestanding Sign - One freeway oriented, freestanding sign for the specific plan area shall be permitted. This sign
shall only identify the center and not identify individual
uses. This sign shall have a maximum height of 35 feet
above freeway level and a maximum area of 150 square feet.
Amended Section (G) (1 ) will read as:
Freestanding Sign - One freeway-oriented, freestanding sign for the specific plan area shall be permitted. This sign
shall identify only the tourist-oriented uses on the site (Lots 1-5 inclusive as shown on the tentative map) and shall
comply with the specifications set forth in SP-186(A). The sign shall have a maximum height of 37 1/2 feet above freeway level and a maximum area of 250 square feet. The sign,
individual sign panels on the sign, and future changes to
sign panels will be designed to be architecturally compatible
with surrounding development and subject to approval of the
Planning Director.
