Eclectic Lawn Concert Series
Project Summary
Please outline all dates of the project,
including start and end dates, event dates, etc.
One of two new concert series inaugurated in
2018-19 to expand the Carlsbad Music
Festival into a year-round cultural resource for
the community, the Eclectic Lawn Series
presents adventurous music on the lawn at St.
Michael's-by-the-Sea Church. Each concert in
the series features four musical acts from a
diverse range of genres. These three concerts
are free and open to the public; food and drink
available for purchase at a beer garden and
food trucks.
CMF's new Eclectic Lawn concerts will be
presented on the afternoons of March 31, April
28, and May 19. Each concert runs from 1-
5pm.
We are particularly requesting funding to
support the artist fee for the musical ensemble
Viento Callejero from the Los Angeles
neighborhood of Boyle Heights to perform at
the May 19 concert. Viento Callejero
represents the newest incarnation of the Latin
music movement in Los Angeles. The group
breaks down the rhythmic and melodic pulse
of Cumbia and fuses it with electronic
experimental and psychedelic soundscapes.
http://www. vientoca llejero.com/about. html
Requested Funding Amount 500
Expected total number of participants and/or 1500
audience attendance.
What makes this project distinctive? Building on the popularity and critical success
of CM F's summer music festival, the Eclectic
Lawn series brings a similar wealth of musical
experiences to spring Sundays in Carlsbad.
No other concert series in the region presents
such a diverse range of music--a point which
has brought critical acclaim to the festival.
With its two new concert series this season,
CMF has expanded from a summer music
festival into a year-round cultural presence in
Carlsbad.
What are the goals (outputs and/or outcomes)
of the project?
The incredible success of Carlsbad Music
Festival's summer music festival has led CMF
to expand into a year-round provider of music
and cultural experiences in Carlsbad. Our
indoor Sonic Chapel series (winter) and
Eclectic Lawn series (spring) provide members
of our community with many more
opportunities to experience a wide range of
music from diverse artists and cultures. The
three concerts of the Eclectic Lawn series are
free to the public, allowing people from all
financial backgrounds the ability to enjoy these
incredible performances together.
Are there any partners participating in your Yes
project? This would include non-staff artists,
personnel or organizations other than the
applicant who are an integral part of the
project.
Provide names and a brief description of roles
of any partners in the project.
Upload resumes/biographies/mission
statements for any partnering individuals or
organizations to your project.
Please upload any other supplemental
information you would like to share (links to
videos, photos, print materials, etc.) Optional.
Please download, complete and submit the
Project Budget Form. Be sure to include the
name of your organization in the title, and the
file name. The Project Budget Form can be
downloaded HERE, or on our website.
Participating artists include Cindy Lee
Berryhill, Son de San Diego, The Red Fox
Tails, Sunny War, Sibarg Ensemble, Matt
McBane + Build, Diana Gameros, Trouble in
the Wind, Clinton Davis, Peter Sprague,
Viento Callejero, and The Paragraphs. We are
also partnering with area restaurateurs and
breweries to provide a beer garden and food
trucks for patrons to enjoy during the
performances. The Carlsbad City Library's
book bike will be present at the April and May
events. Carlsbad Village Association is loaning
equipment and helping to promote the events.
St. Michael's church is hosting the concerts.
