This task is limited by our access to the inside of the duct work. This requires a technician crawling inside the duct and attaching supports wherever and however the access will allow the technician to do so. Retro-fitting the duct supports will be done where access allows. Duct support materials shall be 16 gauge angle and/or ½” conduit piping with stand-off hardware and sheet metal screws. Areas repaired: -25 yard range exhaust systems located at the 15 yard line -25 yard range exhaust system at the bullet trap -100 yard range exhaust system located forward of the 50 yard line. Duct support shall be provided & installed as required by the industry shop standards for rectangular duct reinforcement. The spacing shall be 24” to 36” depending on the access and condition of the existing ductwork. The inspection of the existing conditions indicate that the ductwork is of lighter gauge sheet metal (26g) which under the current conditions of operations require additional/necessary internal supports to prevent duct collapse. The current conditions are void of a duct connection system and bracing that would support the duct during high pressure (negative atmosphere) conditions. The gauge of the sheet metal used for the ductwork will determine the amount of internal braces required to support the overall exhaust duct from the opening to the roof level penetration. In the current construction conditions, the lighter or thinner gauge (26g) sheet metal duct lacks both connections and support braces, requiring several connection posts fastened from the inside in order to maximize the overall strength of the duct. Due to the confined space nature of the exhaust duct systems, overhead installation, and limited access due to ballistic baffle panels in the overhead space, further assessments will be conducted once personnel and equipment are mobilized to make necessary repairs. The existing duct is void of any duct connection system (such as Ward Connector or Duct Mate Connector ) that would have provided additional support and helped compensate for the lighter gauge sheet metal used during original construction. The only option over support bracing with a connection system would be complete replacement and redesign of the exhaust duct system using heavier or thicker gauge sheet metal. After initial inspections, it is highly recommended the current duct system be braced over the redesign and replacement option in order to prevent contaminated air from escaping past HEPA filtrations units. Support hardware: DuroDyne system using their Dyn-O-Claw & Dyn-O-Lock conncetion system shall be used with ½” conduit fixed with custom made stand-off brackets. The spacing will be as conditions dictate of approximately (24” to 36”). Also, 16 Gauge 1 ½” x 1 ½ “ angle will be use as needed to provide additional support. Please see attached Duro Dyne submittal sheets for the support system proposed. All penetrations for support anchors, screws, and support attachments will be sealed with flex tape or sheet metal adhesive to prevent leaks. Every effort will be made to support the ductwork and prevent the “oil canning” and prevent internal collapse. We can only do it as conditions and access allow. We feel that the system proposed is the only option other than complete replacement of the exhaust ductwork. Replacement was the only option on the 100 yard range exhaust system as that duct did collapse and split at a connection point due to a lack of internal supports and construction of lighter gauge sheet metal.
