Dear Ms. Davis:
The Carlsbad Arts Office requests a six-month extension of the YES TO ART program. With the attached
invoice the Arts Office has expended $7,900 of the awarded $15,000 and matching funds.
The YES TO ART program began in October 1994, with the hiring of a Project Coordinator. Workshops
began in December. Since then a youth assistant and four participating artists have been hired or
contracted. Workshops have been held in mask-making, Danza Azteca, paper flower-making, muraling,
and Afro-Cuban drumming. In March a field trip was conducted for forty-five youth to Cine Estudil at the
Centre Cultural de la Raza. In January and April Theatre of Yugen and San Jose Taiko each conducted
guest artist workshops. In April YES TO ART held an open house at the Boys and Girls Club. In May,
YES TO ART exhibited works at Carlsbad's annual "Festejando a las Madrecitas" at Holiday Park.
YES TO ART generated an interview for Take Five at Daniels Cablevision, televised in April. YES TO ART
has also been awarded a grant of $3,926.00 by Carlsbad Community Television Foundation for its
documentary project.
Sincerely,
Windy Bravo
Project Director
