Page 1 of2 Absent any written notification, invite, status report, or meeting agenda re: our pending grant application or the meeting this Friday, I wanted to provide the following on behalf of AHLF: 1. The AHLF would be happy to respond to any written inquiries or comments re: our grant application. We only know that it is pending but do not have the benefit of other related details that would launch us into an interactive mode with staff. We would enjoy a reasonable lead time for future meeting efforts, with agenda or purpose duly noted, so that we can appropriately mobilize and assign AHLF resources. 2. Don Rideout has been asked to attend, however, his attendance is not certain given prior commitments. Regardless, anyone represenUng our grant and the AHLF is limited without any written or documented baseline from the city or Committee re: grant status or issues. 3. Our grant is not intended to assist our organization make a profit or generate funds; our mission is community-based and this grant is to maintain trails after construction and delivery by other entities. We are working with private property owners and city staff to assess trail acquisition and maintenance opportunities. 4. Our plan for trail maintenance is not conceptual; by April 30 we will have secured formal acceptance of the north shore trail link from the railroad right of way west to Carlsbad Blvd on the north shore of the outer lagoon basin. It was required of the Fish Hatchery and powerplant dredging projects. Construction will commence early May and be done by start of September 2007. Other trail links are currently being assessed in partnership with the City, Coastal Commission and State Coastal Conservancy around the perimeter and vicinity of Agua Hedionda Lagoon. 5. Our methodology was designed to mimic the city's methodology for calculating trail maintenance costs assuming it to be a reasonable and in-use method. While the community at large understands that some transition time is necessary to replace Elaine Blackburn as Project Manager, it is our hope that our non-profit organizations and related community-based projects do not get compromised for administrative, communication or logistical reasons. I have copied Don Rideout on this email; as well as City Trail Manager Liz Ketabian and AHLF Vice-Presidents Steve LePage and Ken Alfrey.
