Publicity to solicit funding proposals, which occurred in 2006, was primarily handled through news releases, newspaper advertisements, and the City's website. The City determined that some publicity efforts, such as utility bill inserts, were too costly and complex to pursue. Based on the review of files, staff believes information and in some cases grant applications were also mailed directly to farming interests, including the San Diego County Farm Bureau, Leslie Farms, and the Carltas Companies. City staff also spoke with at least seven individuals with farming interests. Should the Committee desire, staff can seek to expand the list of farming contacts as part of the next funding cycle.
