Executive Summary On Dec. 3, 2019, the Commission received a staff report on Beach Grooming Analysis (specific to the northern beach in Carlsbad). Volunteer beach clean-ups are one of the grooming opportunities described in that staff report. At the conclusion of that Beach Preservation Commission meeting, the Commissioners requested a future meeting agenda item to consider the formation of an ad-hoc committee to plan and coordinate a northern beach clean-up. On Feb. 4, 2020, the Commission nominated and appointed Commissioners Prietto, Briggs and Steindlberger as the ad-hoc committee for this purpose. Since the appointment, the ad-hoc committee has been meeting regularly with Parks & Recreation Department staff to plan and coordinate a beach clean-up. The ad-hoc committee’s primary focus was on a clean-up schedule, public safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, and public outreach. Findings will be presented by ad-hoc committee representative Briggs. Upon receiving the report, the Beach Preservation Commission will determine whether to proceed with the northern beach clean-up.
