City Manager's Recommendation
naty: September 15, 1970
It is recommended that the City Manager be authorized to direct a
communication o the San Diego Gas & Electric Company indicating
that their representatives have met with representatives of the City
and that we have no objection to use of the existing right-of-way
for the proposed 230 KV transmission line.
Since these rights-of-w,.y are presently existing and are for the most
part in ►•ural or semi -rural areas, we foresee no problems with the
installation of the proposed transmission line. Of course, as the
General Plan area develops, we must work cooperatively with the San
Diego Gas & Electric Company regarding development adjacent to their
transmission facilities. According to epresentatives of the company,
••ights-of-way have already been obtained to meet their future needs,
and it is unlikely we would be involved in future requests for new
rights -of -way for transmission lines.
Council Action
9-15-70 City Manager authorized to direct communication to SDG&E
indicating that their represe tatives met with City repre-
sentatives and the City has no objection to the use of the
existing right of way for the proposed 230 KV transmission line.

Mr. Jack B. Arnold, City Manager

Carlsbad, California 92008
Dear Mr. Arnold.
On August 31, 1970, R. L. Ellis, E. R. Dimple, and I, reviewed,
with you, plans for construction of a 230,000 volt steel tower line within
an existing transmission right of way in Carlsbad. The planned line is
more particularly shown on the attached plat.
This 230 KV line will transport power from new units to be con-
structed at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, in Camp Pendleton, to the
metropolitan San Diego area. Construction of the line is scheduled to start
in the spring of 1971, and the entire line will be completed some time in
1973.
In order that we can comply with recently adopted California Public
Utilities Commission regulations, pertaining to the routing of transmission
lines in excess of 200 KV, a brief statement, confirming our meeting, and
your agreement that we should use existing right of way for this facility,
wnere possible, will ne most appreciated.
We lock forward to working with the C:.ty of Carlsbad to coordinate
our plans with any proximate improvements planned by you, and in the future,
to review long range electric transmission lino routings.
Sincerely,
0. A. Bishop, Supervisor
