Staff Recornmenda ti ons
The school district has been working with the staff toward developing
a program for the installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters around
the schools which do not have existing improvements. The timing of
the work will be dependent upon availability of funds. The school
district has advised that they will include funds for installation of
these improvements when they begin preparation of 1971-72 budget.
The City staff has agreed to perform the necessary grading work if the
district can install the physical improvements.
We recommend that the matter be referred to the staff for further
study and coordination with the district and that a recommendation
regarding City participation be included in the 1971-72 'City budget.

MEMORANDUM
TO: City Council
January 25, 1971
FROM: Chairman, Communi ty Involvement Commi t tee (CIC)
SUBJECT: Request for Priority in Sidewalk Improvements
With reference to the recent concern expressed by
the City regarding the lack of sidewalks in some of the
residential areas, the CIC, at its meeting last week,
unanimously recommended that first priority should be
given to sidewalk improvement for those areas adjacent to
the schools. This should be done utilizing the 1911 Street
Improvements Act or by other means.
