Exhibit Memo to Public Works Director from Park Foreman.(4-27-71) Staff Recommendations None A$ No. 420 Dater April 30, 1971 City Manager's Recommendation If the City Council elects to place the Park and Open Space Bond Issue on•the ballot and the measure is approved by the electorate, this build- ing is slated for demolition. This is an unbudgeted expenditure and will cost -from $710 to $2;360, plus labor. *While I concur this is an ugly building, I would prefer to expend funds on a more permanent solution to the problem or to devote this expenditure to -permanent plantings in Max - ton Brown or Laguna Riviera Parks, or landscaping El Camino Real. If it is'decided to.proceed, I recommend the three alternate solutions.in order from least costly to the most expensive. 5-12-71 This office is currently investigating the feasibility of using the Greenwood property for interim Parks and Recreation Dept. office space and relocating the heavy equipment to the City yard. Space could be made available to Parks Dept. for heavy equipment storage at the yard by dis- posing of some of our "war surplus" items now stored at the yard. If this proves to be a practical undertaking and if the City Council approves same, it will be possible to clear the present park operations site sooner for incorporation into Holiday Park. Council Action 5-4-71 Vice Mayor McComas requested this matter be held over to the next regular Council meeting. 5-18-71 Concurred with recommendations of City Manager. dated 5-12-71 (as above) and authorization was given the City Manager to implement plan. -2- April 27, 1971 Director of Public Works CAMOUFLAGE OF EQUIPMENT YARD ON EUREKA PLACE The Park headquarters house and front fence could be painted for about One Hundred and Ten Dollars ($110); plus labor. To hide the yard, which has one hundred and eighty (180) feet of chain link wire fence, it would require thirty 15-gallon plants to partially conceal the equipment from the outside. If used, these plants would be more secure if they were planted in the ground. Cost -------------------------------- $600 If complete camouflage is desired, this could be accomplished by acquiring an additional thirty 24--inch boxed plants (Quercus Ilex) at $75.00 each. These coule be used in other City prop- erties when the Eureka Place equipment yard is moved to another location. Cost ------------------------------------ $2250 Another choice, although not instantaneous, would be much more economical. This would be the purchase and planting of a fast- growing five -gallon size plant on three sides of the yard. Cost -------------------------- Approx. $100 Tar, was not included in the above cost figures J FORRES KRUGER PARK FOREMAN FK:hl cc: City Manager
