- Statement of the Matter
The 1971-1972 adopted budget contains an allocation for an Assistant Planner at $759/month. This position is a reclassification of a Junior Planner position which has been filled on a 2/3 time basis. This year's . budget authorizes this reclassified position as full time for practical
reasons until next February,excluding this current summer. The excess funds saved from September to January would permit the City to continue with a summer intern program as it has for the past two years. This
year, as in the two preceding years, such a program is necessary in order to proceed with certain specialized planning projects. The pro- posed Plan for Community Living requires that a Residential Needs Survey
be initiated as stated in the planning department status report of April 20, 1971. This-year's summer intern position would be necessary to prepare the Residential Needs Survey.

It is recommended that the City Council 'adopt sug ested change to
