Statement of the .fatter
The Parks and Recreation Department has designed a Civic Center Landscape
Plan utilizing plant materials which would be compatible with existing
soil and wind conditions. The various forms of eucalyptus and the
rosemary ground covers were chosen because of the lower degree of
required main•cenance and because their.use will situate the Civic Center
in the informal, more natural type of landscape environment which is
characteristic of Carlsbad. This department recommends the use of
a hybrid burmuda for the lawn_ areas, though we'may be faced with a short
period of.dormancy during the winter months. Further, a use of the hybrid
burmuda turf will eliminate the time and cost involved in combating
cut worms and lawn insects.
It is estimated that the cost of landscaping,'including construction of
the irrigation systems will not exceed $9,000.00. There is at this time
$1,000.00 budgeted for -Civic Center landscaping, and it is recommended
that these funds be utilized in areas where we can make the best show
for the least amount of money.
