LAUGHLIN WITHIN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD Chief of Police Statement of the Natter Intention of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad to adopt an Ordinance establish- ing truck routes within the City of Carlsbad, repealing and amending Ordinance No. 3084 (10.32.090 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code). 5-2-72 Traffic Safety Commission has reviewed this ordinance and recommends its adoption by the City Council. Exhibi t Proposed Ordinance embodying recommendations of the Carlsbad Police Department. Staff Recommendations It is recommended that the City Council adopt c.n Ordinance establishing and prescribing street routes within the City for the use of commercial truck and trailer combinations, commercial tractor and trailer combinations, and all three -axle trucks in excess of 14,000 pounds gross weight, and prohibiting the use of all other streets by such vehicles; and also providing for signposting of the streets described as truck routes, at certain locations and in a prescribed manner. The following code sections are hereby added to the Carlsbad Municipal Code, §10. 32.090 Truck Routes. The use of all streets within the City of Carlsbad, excepting those streets described in §10. 32. 091, is hereby pro- hibited as to the following described vehicles: Commercial trucks and trallbr- combinations, comr_zercial tractor and trailer combinations, and all three axle trucks in excess of 14, 000 pounds gross weight. _§10. 32. 091. The prohibition set forth in §10. 32. 090 shall not apply to the following streets and portions of streets which are hereby designated and established truck routes, to wit: a. CARLSBAD BOULEVARD from the Northerly City Limits to the Southerly City Limits, b, ELM AVENUE from Carlsbad Boulevard east to Interstate 5 Freeway. c, TAMARACK AVENUE from Interstate 5 Freeway, west to Carlsbad Boulevard, d, CANNON ROAD, from Interstate 5 Freeway to Carlsbad Boulevard. e, INTERSTATE 5 FREEWAY, Northerly City Limits to Southerly City Limits. f, PALOMAR AIRPORT ROAD from Carlsbad Boulevard to Easterly City Limits (by Carlsbad Raceway). (Portion of Palomar Airport Road is in county). g, EI CAMINO REAL from Northerly City Limits to Southerly City Limits, §10. 32. 092. §10. 32. 090 shall not apply to the following vehicles: a, Vehicles subject to the provisions of §'s 1031 to 1036 inclusive of the California Public Utilities Code. b, Vehicles described in § 35703 of the Vehicle Code and, c. All streets and portions thereof established by this Chapter as truck routes, shall be posted with appropriate signs displaying in letters not less than 4 inches in height, the words "truck route". EFFECTIVE DATE: This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force on the thirty-first day from and after its adoption. PUBLICATION: The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby directed to cause this Ordinance to be published once in the Carlsbad Journal a newspaper published and of general circulation in said City of Carlsbad. First read at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad held on the 16thday of May , 1972, and finally passed, approved and adopted at a regular meeting held on the 7th day of June , 1972, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Cmn.
