Herman Poggemeyer, Jr.
Major General, Commanding
Camp Pendleton, Ca 92055
Dear General Poggemeyer:
A strong stand opposing the installation of a major air*
port on Camp Pendleton has been taken by the Board of
Directors of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. The
action was taken in a resolution adopted at the Board's
meeting of September 6, 1972
Such a development in North San Diego County, the Board
believes, would be a greet detriment to the future of the
Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton and incompatible with
the quality of living enjoyed in this area.
If we can serve in any way to prevent such a development
taking place, please call on us.
Sincerely yours.

RESOLUTION NO. 3004
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD OPPOSING JET AIRPORT
FACILITIES AT CAMP PENDLETON AND
OPPOSING MAJOR EXPANSION OF PALOMAR
AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors and others seek
to create a large jet airport facility at Camp Pendleton, and,
WHEREAS, the construction of such a jet airport would produce the
*following serious adverse consequences:
1. The construction of such a jet airport facility would
effectively dump an Orange County problem upon San Diego County
citizens;
2. A jet airport facility would deprive the Pendleton Marine
Base of essential training areas which are necessary for present and
future national defense;
3. Such a jet airport and all of the related facilities which
would be necessary for its operation, would create massive and as
yet unknown environmental consequences;
4. Such a facility, if built at Camp Pendleton, would deprive
the entire Southern California area of one of the few existing beautiful
open green areas which still exists within the now existing seventeen
mile stretch between Oceanside and San Clemente;
5. Would irreparably damage an existing ecological preserve
at Camp Pendleton, and,
WHEREAS, there are similar forces presently working with the view of
expanding Palomar airport facilities into a major jet airport facility, and
WHEREAS, similar adverse consequences would be imposed upon the
entire Carlsbad and surrounding area if such an expansion were undertaken
at Palomar airport.
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carlsbad does,
for the above stated reasons, deem the construction of a large airport facility
at Camp Pendleton and the expansion of Palomar airport into a major jet
