Statement of the Matter
City Council Resolution 1944 of January 18, 1972 approved the application
for a California Council on Criminal Justice Grant for the Community
Service Officer Project. The total amount of the grant was $104,705.00, on a 1/4 - 3/4 matching basis. The City's share of matching funds is $26,176.00, of which $14,082.00 has been budgeted in Fiscal Year 1972- 73. The remaining $12,094.00 needs to be budgeted in order to take
full advantage of the grant.
Therefore, it is requested that the City Council authorize the transfer of $12,094.00 from General Fund Reserve to budget account
1-119, Police Department, for use as matching funds for the CCCJ Grant.

Concur with staff recommendation. The matching amount included in the
1972-73 budget was sufficient to continue oQr small scale p?lot program
+ or to match our anticipated grant approval. Sometime after the budget
was adopted, last Qctober to be exact, we-were advised that we had been
awarded our full request, which is unusual with CCCJ grants.
The Police Department is presently us'ing low band-radios, .additional units . bei-ng obtained from the Fire Department when they went on the County- . Fire Ne-t (high band). Funds needed to match CCCJ Funds will be partially
used to re-equip units with new high band equipment- (other funds from
regular budget and an additional grant through San Diego City and County for balance of new communications equipment), This will release our old
. low band radios for Public Works, Parks, etc.
