Parks & Recreation Dept. Statement of the Matter The kiln and tennis ball machine have been recommended by the City Manager in the Preliminary Budget in Fund 5-133, object number 9.1, for which we request an -advance of $1,295 to allow purchase in time for peak usage months in the summer. The kiln will be in use year round to accomodate craft classes involving all age groups, but purchase should be made in time for availability during the peak' usage months of th•e,summer. Exhibit Staff Recommendations Elementary, junior high and high school students will have classes in the summer and adults and senior citizens -will utilize the equipment on a year round basis. Craft classes have been.a very•pppular part of our elementary age programs and classes have been re -quested i.n ceramics for older students and adults. Tennis lessons have become a year-round activity, serving .players from age 10 through adults. Last -summer our instructor used his own machine and it was enthusiastically accepted by the students and endorsed by the instructor. Since the introduction of the machine, we had to expand classes more hours and operate year round lessons. Once again, purchase of this equipment should be insured in time for maximum usage during 'the summer. Action should not be taken unless the Gity Council indicates they would have approved these items for inclusion in the 1973-74 budget. Council'Action 6-5-73 Agenda Bill continued to the adjourned meeting, budget session, June 12, 1973, at 2 o'clock. 6-12-73 Matter continued until the next budget•session, June 26th, and Parks and Recreation Director requested by Ci.ty Manager to provide the Council with a copy of the specific programs planned for Recreation.
