Statement of the Matter
The City has paid mileage to those persons who use their own car on
City business at the rate of 13$ per mile. A survey of county cities
indicates that in the majority of cases the prevailing rate is 15£
per mile. The primary reason for this increase is the higher cost of
gasoline.

Those persons who use their car on City business be permitted to
charge the City at a rate of 15£ per mile^ by amending Council
Policy #2 dated 1/5/71, paragraph Bisection 3.

City Manager's Recommendation
Although the City is presently paying 13£ a mile, the Council Policy
#2 establishing the amount has never been changed from 10*. Due to the
increased costs of gasoline and maintenance of vehicles, it is recom-
mended at this time that the City establish a per mile cost of 15C
and instruct the staff to amend the Council Policy as necessary.
