Subject: PROPOSED ADDITION TO CLASSIFICATION PLAN Statement of the Matter This proposed change would add to the city's Classification Plan the -position of COMMUNICATIONS AND RECORDS SUPERVISOR in the Carlsbad Police Department. The continued growth," number and variety of Police Department activities justify the inclusion of this position. WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs that the addition of the position of Communications and Records Supervisor, at Salary Range 24, to the City's Classifica- tion and Salary Range Schedule is necessary for the more efficient functioning of the Carlsbad Police Department; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City, Council of the City of Carlsbad as follows: 1. That the above facts are true and.correct. .2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the addition of the position of Communications and Records Supervisor, at Salary Range 24,.as described in the attached position descrip- tion, to the City's Classification and Salary Range Schedule: PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City Council held on the 6th day of April ,1976 by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmen Frazee, Lewis, Skotnicki and Councilwoman Casler NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Packa d ROBERT C. FRAZEE, May ATTEST: City ClerkWMAAJ561.G (SEAL) ' COMMUNICATIONS AND RECORDS SUPERVISOR Definition This is a nonprofessional class in the Police Department miscellaneoup employee series involving duties of managing all department'recdrds, supervising the work of police communicators and coordinating these efforts -with other activities within the department. Duties are performed under direction. Examples 1. Responsible for the orientation and training of all of Duties newly assigned communicators within the department. 2. Responsible for the continuing in-service training ,of all police communicators within the department. 3. Responsible for the work scheduling of all police communicators within the department. 4. Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of proper communications procedures. 5. Responsible for scheduling regular equipment maintenance checks as pertaining to all communications procedures. 6. Responsible for all necessary logs, records and diaries as they relate to communications within the department. 7. Responsible for the establishment; maintenance and retirement of all departmental administrative files. 8. Responsible for the establishment, maintenance and retirement of all departmental criminal information files. 9. Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of business office procedures manual for the department. 10. Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of an emergency procedures manual for the department. 11. Responsible for general supervision of all unsworn personnel in the department. 12. Responsible for any other duties as the Chief of Police may assign. EmploymBnt Experience and training equivalent to graduation from Standards college in any field and 3 years experience in communication and records division of a public safety agency. Experience may be substituted for college on a one for one basis to a maximum of 2 years. Possession of a valid California driver's license required. W, 0
