Subject:
SPEED ZONES - JEFFERSON STREET, CHESTNUT AVENUE AND
EL CAMINO REAL.
Statement of the Matter
On the basis of a traffic survey, it is recommended:
a. that a 35 m.p.h. speed zone be established on Jefferson Street
from Grand Avenue to the northerly City limits to replace the
existing 30 m.p.h. speed zone from Knowles Avenue to the north-
erly City Limits;
b. that a 35 m.p.h. speed zone be established on Chestnut Avenue
from Pio Pico Drive to El Camino Real to consolidate the exist—
ing 25 m.p.h. speed zone from Valley Street to E1 Camino Real
'with the existing 35 m.p.h. speed zone from Pio Pico Drive to
Valley Street;
c. that a 55 m.p.h. speed zone be established on the City's por-
tions of El Camino Real from 500 feet north of Elm Avenue to
500 feet south of Arenal Road.
All of the above streets would have to be posted according to the
traffic surveys in order for the Police Department to use radar
enforcement and for the speed zones not to qualify as "speed traps"
as defined by Section 40802 of the California Vehicle Code.
