Subject: MAYOR'S YOUTH COWMITTEE Statement of the Matter Chuck Grafft, Chairman of the Mayor's Youth Committee has been accepted for the Junior Statesman Foundation Summer School Program from June 27 to July 23. Only 60 individuals from the entire state were selected. This leadership training program will cost $500.00. He is asking for Council approval of the expenditure of this sum from the Youth Committee funds if they feel it appropriate. He has discussed the matter with the Council liaison member and the advisor to the Youth Committee and will bring it before the Mayor's Youth Committee meeting on June 13, 1976. Mr.-Grafft feels he will be able to share knowledge gained from this leadership training program with both members of the Youth C—imittee as well as the student body at school. An expenditure of funds was approved by the Council in March, 1976 by the Council for Chuck Grafft to attend a Youth Conference in Concord, California. This conference was cancelled and the funds returned to the Mayor's Youth Committeq account. At the present time there are sufficient funds in the budget designated by the Council for the Mayor's Youth Committee expenses to cover the cost of the leadership training program. The cost of this month long leadership training camp ks $500. It is my hope that the Mayor's Youth Committee could spnnsor me for this camp. Due to finals and other conflicts our monthly meeting of the I.Y.C. was moved from 6/7 to 6/13 and at this meeting a vote will be taken from among our members for the authorization of such an expenditure. It has thgo approval of the advisor and the chairman iy%s far. From this leadership training camp I hope to be able to return with a greatly increased understanding of government 8c leadership. My knowledge could certainly beinsed as A.S.B. President at C.H.S. next year, Also as chairman of the M.Y.C. and if at all possible by my giving lectures and semiinars on what I've learned.
