June 16, 1977 City Council City of Carlsbad Attention: Paul Bussey, City Manager 1200 Elm Avenue Carlsbad, California 92008 Dear Sir: Re: Temporary Real Estate Directional Signs We have been in the business of specializing in temporary real estate signing for the past fifteen years in San Diego and Orange counties and have seen a vast transition taking place in the last few years specifically from ihe erection of a great number of large billboard- type structures directing traffic to subdivisions to what we are doing today, that is, erecting a small number of strategically placed graphically designed signs- 95 percent of which are only 32 square feet. We think this change is not oniy more aesthetically pleasing but also more effective. These signs are neat, clean, and strategically located to give maxi- mum efficiency for the developer while at the same time having a minimal effect on the community. All of the cities in San Diego county have recognized the need for temporary real estate directional sign- ing except Carlsbad, between a billboard and a temporary directional sign inasmuch as a billboard is a permanent-type structure advertising general consumer products whereas temp- orary real estate directional signs are, in fact, temp- orary in nature, small in size, and specifically erect- There's a basic distinction ed to direct potential buyers to a a community. 8145 RON30N WD, WIT€ E.
