MEMORANDUM
August 10, 1976
TO: City Manager
FROM: Public Works Administrator
SUBJECT: Fire Station #3 - Change Order Number 2
Entering the final stages of constriction of Fire Station #3, several items
have been discovered where either construction work was not done in confor-
mance with plans and specifications or where the adherence to the details
of the plans, or lack thereof, would result in a finished product which
does not fully meet the needs of the Fire Department in occupying the
structure.
Examples of none spec work are the use of exterior finish material which
was not in absolute conformance with certain of the architects drawings
and the discovery of a depression in the floor of the apparatus room.
Discussion of these discrepancies with the Fire Chief indicates his will-
ingness to live with both circumstances. When the exterior, finish is
stained to the proposed color, the fact that the joints and grooves are
not as specified by the architect would not be detectable from surrounding
properties. The depression in the apparatus floor can be compensated for
by employing, as a standard practice, the use of a squeegee to remove any
retained water.
Eliminating the need to correct the above mentioned deficiencies would
result in a credit of $550.
The finish of the interior walls of the living quarters is a smooth
plaster. It was discovered that the specified material is unable to be
tinted before application and therefore the interior finish of the living
quarters is a pale grey. It has been requested that these walls be painted
prior to the installation of carpeting, drapes, and cabinetry. Cost of
painting these walls, which would enhance both their appearance and the
ability to maintain their surface, is quoted at $750. Other minor work
on the site would include substituting a solid wood front door in lieu
of a solid core door with plywood finish; installing removable molding
around stationary glass windows in the entry way in lieu of the heavy
wood restraints shown on the plan (this change would provide for easier
replacement of the glass should it ;ie broken); and installation of an
exterior cement slab westerly of the kitchen area. Cost of this additional
work is quoted at $300.
With the additions and deletions described above, the net added cost of this
recommended change order is $500. Sufficient funds are available in project
services.
