Statement bf the Matter Nine residents of the 3900 block of Jefferson have submitted a petition to Council (Exhibit A) protesting the installation of temporary asphalt sidewalks on their block. as a part of the "Safe School Walkways" program. is one block south of Jefferson School between Tamarack and Chinquapin. A neighborhood meeting hosted by Mr. & Mrs. Lux, 3936 Jefferson, was held on August 9 with the interested parties by Roger Greer, Director of Utilities & Maintenance and Joe Spano, Engineering. P ' August 10, 1976 To: City Manager FROM: Utilities/Maintenance Director SUBJECT: No Asphalt Sidewalks Petition 3900 Block Jefferson Nine residents on the east side of the 3900 block of Jefferson Street sul=anit&d a petition on July 29, 1976 protesting the installation of temporary asphalt sidewalks on their block. in the Safe School Sidewalks Program and is one block south of Tamarack school. This block had been included I had telephone conversations with Mrs. Lux, 3936 Jefferson and Mr. WDade, 3944 Jefferson during the week of August 2 concerning the matter. Mrs. Lux volunteered to host a neighborhod meeting on Mnday, August 9 to enable the residents and staff to discuss the problems and provide information about the program. Mr. & Joe Spano, Engineering and I attended this neighborhood meeting. Six of the original petitioners and one additional family were represented. The consensus of the group was basically that they were not convinced of the need for the sidewalks since there are few school age children in the block and there is a low volurnt of traffic who must transit the area to get to the school. the area off Chinquapin use bicycles to go to school. consensus that if sidewalks were necessary, it would be desirable to install permenent concrete sidewalks.
