MEMORANDUM - December 2, 1976 TO: City Manager FROM: City Engineer SUBJECT: PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY + Carlsbad is experiencing an unprecedented high volume of public works construction, mea3ured both by total bond amount and total number of separate construction sites. I Construction inspec.,ion services, paid for as provided in the Subdivision Ordinance (2% of Bond amount) are performed by two construction inspectors. As shown on the attached summary, the l outstanding inspection fees are greater than the interim amount of services our inspectors can provide. Therefore, it is proposed that a temporary construction inspector be hired to supplement the Engineering Staff until the workload is reduced. It is anticipated that costs for the supplemental construction inspection services will not exceed $12,500. This period is estimated at six to seven months. At the end of this period we will analyze new construction projects to determine if there is justification for adding a permanent construction inspector tc the Engineering Staff.
