Su ^ect: GQLDEN WEST AIRLINE SERVICE - ORANGE COUNTY/PALOMAR AIRPORT/ SAN DIEGO Statement of the Matter Golden West Airlines has filed a request with the State Public Utilities Commission new routings. One of these routes would be two round trips daily from Orange County to Palomar Airport to San Diego. Golden West Airlines requested a letter of support from the City of Carlsbad. We have been informed that the Public Utilities Commission will not hold formal hearings if there is no opposition to the routing as presented. If protests are received, the Public Utilities Commission will set a date for a hearing. At the December 7, 1976 City Council meeting, Council instructed staff to notice a public hearing on the matter of City support of the application. A public hearing has been noticed for January 4, 1977. / Exhibit Letter from Golden West Airlines dated September 28, 1976. Letter of endorsement from Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce dated December 22, 1976. Recommendation If no protests are received, instruct staff to prepare appropriate letter of support. Golden West Airlines is planning to extend our . service from Orange County to Palomar/San Diego and also from San Diego to Santa Barbara non-stop. We plan two round-trips daily with norning and late afternoon departures in both directions from Palomar Airport. We had a meeting with Mr. Paul Bussey, your City Manager, and Ms. Zetta Castle, President of Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, and they indicated our service would be welcome. As is normal with airlines when filing for new routes, we solicit letters of support from city officials, commercial companies, travel agents, etc., which accompany our filing to the State Public Utilities Commission. We feel that a letter from your good city would add tremendous strength to our filing, and we hope you will authorize such a letter.
