TO CONSIDER RECOMMENDING TO CITY COUNCIL THE
FOLLOWING STREET NAME CHANGES: BIRCH AVENUE TO
TAMARACK AVENUE AND CHESTNUT STREET (EXTENSION EAST
OF SIERRA MORENA) TO RICHMOND AVENUE. RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that the proposed street name changes be APPROVED
for the following reasons:
1) Streets with the same names or with non-contiguous paths make it difficult for emergency vehicles and the general
public to find correct locations.
2) Approving the name changes for the listed streets will relieve
this situation.
3) The name changes will help promote the intent of the City

BACKGROUND
This is the fourth in a series of five public hearings on City initiated street name changes.

GENERAL PLAN INFORMATION
The proposed street name changes are not in conflict with the
General Plan.

Birch is a direct extention of Tamarack and should have that
name because the street will eventually connect with the Tamarack extention off El Camino Real.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, CHANGING A CERTAIN CONFLICTING STREET NAME IN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD PURSUANT TO CITY COUNCIL
APPLICANT: CITY OF CARLSBAD
POLICY STATEMENT NO. 20 (SNC-I\/).
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission by the adoption of
Resolution No. 1355 recommended to change a certain street name,
as provided by City Council Policy No. 20; and
WHEREAS, public hearings to consider the subject street
name change were held at the time and in the place specified in
the public notice on April 13, 1977; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined it to be in the
public interest to change the street name;
NON, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That approval is granted for the street name change
described herein, said change to be effective in 90 days,
as follows:
Birch Avenue to Tamarack Avenue.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a reqular meeting of the
Carfsbad City Council held on the 3rd day of May, 1977, by

RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMENDING APPROVAL FOR
CHANGING CONFLICTING STREET NAMES IN THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD PURSUANT TO CITY COUNCIL POLICY STATEMENT
NO. 20.
CASE NO. SNC IV
APPLICANT : CITY OF CARLSBAD
WHEREAS, in accordance with subject policy, a request to
change certain street names, as follows:
Birch Avenue to Tamarack Avenue
Chestnut Avenue (extension east of Sierra Morena) to
Richmond Avenue
has been filed with the City of Carlsbad and referred to the
Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, said request constitutes a legal reqQest as
provided by City Council Policy Statement No. 20; and
WHEREAS, the public hearing to consider the subjecc street
name change was held at the time and in the place specified
in the public notice on April 13, 1977; and
WHEREAS, at said public hearing, the Planning Commission
heard and considered the testimony and arguments, if any, of
all persons who desired to be heard regarding the subject
street name change request.
. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Planning Commission
of the City of Carlsbad as follows:
A) That the above recitations are true and correct;
B) That the Council determines it to be in the public interest to accomplish the name change but on a 3elayed basis to allow an adjustment period.
