Street Name’Change from Retiro Street to Del
Rey Avenue. (Don Woodward)
STATEMENT OF THE MATTER
REQUEST:
The present Retiro Street is in the subdivision known as Vale I1
which is situated North of La costa Boulevard between the golf
course and Rancho Santa Fe Road. The applicant has requested that
this street name change be made because of the similarity between Retiro and retired. There is currently no one living on the street.
The City Council ordinance has been prepared for your adoption.

RECOMMENDAION:
The Planning Commission recommends that Retiro be renamed to Del
Rey. Staff concurs and recommends that the City Council adopt
City Council Resolution No. *-

7-19-77 Following the public hearing Resolution #5144 was adopted,
changing the street name from Retiro Street to Del Rey Avenue. .

REQUEST: STREET NAME CHANGE FROM RETIRO STREET TO DEL
REY AVENUE.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Planning Commission approve the proposed
street name change for the following reasons:
1) There is currently no one living on that street.
2) Mr. Woodward will pay the cost of making such a change.
3) The name change will be consistent with the City's street
name change policy.
Background and Discussion:
On May 17, 1977 Council determined that a public hearing should be
held on a proposed street name change for Retiro Street. Resolution
of Intention No. 142 was approved to initiate such a hearing (See
Attachments).
In a letter to the City (attached), Don Woodward developer of
Cayon Park, has requested that the name of Retiro Street (See
Location Map) be changed to "Del Rey Avenue". It is Mr. Woodward's
feeling that a mispronounciation of the word "Retiro" implies
"retired," a concept contrary to his family oriented development.
There is no development on Retiro at this time. The City is
currently holding a check from Mr. Woodward in the amount of
$235.50, which is the estimated cost of changing the street signs.

RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMEDING
APPROVAL FOR STMET NAME CHANGE IN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD PURSUANT TO CITY COUNCIL POLICY
STATEMENT NO. 20.
CASE NO: SNC-X APPLICANT : DON WOODWARD
WHEREAS, in accordance with the subject policy, a request to
change certain street name, as follows:
Retiro Street to Del Rey Avenue
has been filed with the City of Carlsbad and referred to the
Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, said request constitutes a legal request as provided
by City Council Policy State No, 20; and
WHEREAS, the public hearing to consider the subject street .-
name change was held at the time and in the place specified in
the public notice on June 22, 1977; and
WHEREAS, at said public hearing, the Planning Commission
heard and considered the testimony and arguments, if any, of all
persons who desired to be heard regarding the subject street name
change request,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Planning Commission
of the City of Carlsbad as follows:
A) That the above recitations are true and correct;
B) That approval is granted for street name change described
herein.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the-City
of Carlsbad Planning Commission held on June 22, 1977, by the

STREET NAPE IN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD PURSUANT
TO CITY COUNCIL POLICY STATEMENT NO. 20
(SNC-X) .

CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, CHANGING
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission by the adoption of
Resol-ution No. 1381 recommended to change certain street name,
as provided by the City Council Policy No. 20; and
WHEREAS, public hearing to consider the subject street
name change was held at the time and in the place specified in
the public notice on June 22, 1977; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined it to be in the
public interest to change the street name;
