SUBJECT: Porta-Tel
City Manager

The Lions Club of Carlsbad has offered to donate a Porta-Tel to the Pol ice Department.
A Porta-Tel is a porta-tele communicator for deaf, hearing impaired and speech impaired persons. They resemble and operate very similar to a printed circuit teletype machine. soon have these machines available for an additional monthly cost or they may be purchased outioight. Anyone equipped with a Porta-Tel will be able to communicate directly with anyone else so equipped.
It is our intention to add this machine to our new communications con- sole, at which time we will be able to receive emergency messages from anyone equipped with a similar machine. departments in the North County are equipped with this machine, we expect to receive any emergency calls and relay them to any agency respons i bl e.
The only cost accruing to the City is one additional private telephone line which is the carrier of the message.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY.COUNCIL OF THE CITY- OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A GIFT OF A TELECOMMUNICATOR FOR DEAF AND HEARING Irq-

WHEREAS, the Lions Club of Carlsbad wishes to present a
communicator for deaf and hiaring impaired persons; and
WHEREAS, the City CourLci1 wishes to accept this gift pu
to Sections 37354 and 37355 of the California Government Cod
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of t
of Carlsbad as follows:
1. That the recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts the gift of a telecorr
cator for deaf and hearing impaired persons on behalf of all
citizens of the City of Carlsbad.
