Statement of the Matter
At the February 20, 1979 City Council meeting, the contract to renovate tt- Harding Street Community Center was awarded without the intrusion and fire alarm systems. taining bids for same. The architect reviewed and clarified the plans anc specifications and provided an estimated cost of $7,392. Inquiries to in- stallers who are acquainted with the revised plans, indicated estimated ir stallation costs of $5,610 to $9,095. Harding Street Community Center project was deleted on February 20, 1979.

SUBJECT: SECURITY SYSTEM FOR NARDING STREET COMMUNITY CENTER
On February 20, 1979 the City Council awarded Contract No. 1049 to the Armstrong-McHugh Corporation for the renovation of Harding Street Com- munity Center. The contract was awarded for the low bid of $385,089 less $11,908 for the security system which could be deleted from the contract with no compensation to the contractor. The Council directed staff to further investigate the cost of the security system to deter- mine the desirability of obtaining bids for same.
The security system costs which were indicated in the sealed bids opened on February 5th were for $1,959, $11,908, $2,200, $4,645 and $4,500. who are acquainted with the approved plan for Harding Street Community Center, indicate installation costs of $7,045, $9,095 and $5,610. The architect for the project provides an estimated cost of $7,392.
Staff recommends that the security system for the Warding Street Com- munity Center be readvertised and expeditiously processed so that COM- pletion of the renovation project will not be unnecessarily hampered.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
IZING THE CITY CLERK TO INVITE BIDS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE INTRUSION AND FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS IN THE HARDING
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHOR-
STREET COFllrlUNITY CENTER - CONTRACT NO. IO64
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has determined it
necessary and in the public interest to install intrusion and fire alarm s
in the Harding Street Community Center; and
WHEREAS, specifications for the furnishing of all labor, material, 1
equipment, transportation and other expenses necessary or incidental for c
project, Contract No. 1064, have been prepared and are on file in the Pub
Works Department of the City of Carlsbad and are incorporated by referenc
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED b.y the City Council of the City of C
