Statement of the Matter
On January 3, 1978, the City Council accepted the Carlsbad Unified School
District's offer to jointly construct street improvements on the south side
of Basswood Avenue from Monroe Street to Valley Street and on the east side
of Valley Street from Basswood Avenue to Chestnut Avenue. A fund transfer
of $39,000 from Gas Tax was approved which 'was carried over to the 1978-79
fiscal year as a continued appropriation. The 1978-79 fiscal year budget
approved $16,000 from Gas Tax and $4,000 from the General Fund for the
project. The engineer's estimate for the project is $89,441 with the City's
share being $45,869 and the District's share at $43,572. On March 5, 1979,
the District provided the City with a purchase order for its share.

Recommendation
If City Counci I concurs, adopt Resolution No.6737 approving plans and
specifications and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids to be
opened on May 3, 1979.
Council Action:
4-3-79 Council adopted Resolution 5737, approving plans and specifications and authorizing the Clerk to invite bids for street improvements on Valley Street and Basswood Avenue.

SUBJECT: STREET IMPROVEMENTS ON VALLEY STREET & BASSWOOD AVENUE
Cost accounting for the subject project is as follows:
Estimated cost of project $89,441
Carlsbad Unified School District's share (48.7%) 43,572
City's share (51.3%) 45,869
The City has allocated funds for this project as follows:
Gas Tax (Account #02-200-3081) $39,000
Genera I Fund (Account #O I - 145-3052 1 4,000
Gas Tax (Account #02-200-3052) 16,000
$59,000
Though the City's allocation of funds exceeds the City's estimated share
of the project, it is recommended that the allocation remain as previous-
ly assigned until the project is complete to allow for possible cost in-
creases. If there are cost increases, the Carlsbad Unified School Dis-
trict will be billed their share.

RESOLUTION NO. 5737
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHOR-
IZING THE CITY CLERK TO INVITE BIDS FOR STREET IMPROVE-
MENTS ON VALLEY STREET AND BASSWOOD AVENUE
WHEREAS, the City Council of the.City of Carlsbad has determined it is
necessary and in the public interest to provide street improvements on Valley
Street and Basswood Avenue; and
WHEREAS, specifications for the furnishing of all labor, material, tools,
equipment, transportation and other expenses necessary or incidental for said
project, Contract No. 1057, have been,prepared by and filed in the Public Works
Department of the City of Carlsbad and are incorporated by reference herein;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad
as follows: -
1. The above recitations are true and correct.

ihe specifications as presented are hereby approved.
The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby authorized and di-
rected to proceed to publish, in accordance.with law, notice to contractors in-
viting bids for the street improvements on Valley Street and Basswood Avenue
in accordance with the specifications hereinabove referred to.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
Salifornia, at a regular meeting held the 3rd day of April , 1979, by
the following vote, to wit:
