RENEWAL OF CITY INSURANCE
Statement of the Matter
Quotations have been received from National Certified, Inc.
on the City's General Liability, Water Department General
Liability, Auto Liability and Physical Damage, Excess Auto
Liability, and Excess Workers' Compensation.

Commercial auto insurance rates have risen approximately 22%,
general liability, approximately 25%, and Worker1 Comp by 2 1/2%.
We also have a newer fleet of trucks and automobiles and a few
more vehicles than covered in 1978-79. Council should be aware
that the municipal insurance market is still 'difficult as few
companies will handle municipalities.

Recommendation
That Council by minute motion, approve the renewal of the City's
insurance as outlined.

Please keep in mind that Commercial Auto Rates were increased in the past year by
approximately 22%, General Liability approximately 25%, and Workers' Compensation
rates by approximately 2.5%.
This will be our 8th year providing General Liability and Auto coverages for the City
of Carlsbad, and we always do our best to provide the most competitive companies,
and premiums available on the market.
We have received excellent service from your staff and the City Attorney's office with
regards to claims. If , at any time, you feel we are not doing the job, please let me
know at once.
Allianz Insurance Company's Loss Control Department will make a monthly Safety Meeting
with various Department Heads, as per our meeting with you on May 31, 1979.

**This is a tentative quote. I spoke with the Casualty Manager today, and he is trying
to get a better quote, but the final quote won't be ready for at least 2 weeks. This
tentative quote represents less than a I5£% increase over last year's premium. Also,
the company is looking at either a $500, or $1,000 Deductible.
