Engineering SUBJECT: COASTAL BICYCLE ROUTE - CONTRACT NO. 1061A STATEMENT OF THE MATTER On June 19, 1979 the City Clerk opened bids for construction of the Coastal Bicycle Route on Carlsbad Boulevard. Two bids were received, both of which were in excess of the Engi- neer's estimate. The project not only provides bike lanes along the full length of Carlsbad Boulevard, but also will provide a continuous left-turn lane from Grand Avenue to Tamarack. lane is intended to reduce the accident rate (30 accidents per year) along this heavily travel ed road. The left-turn Funds presently available for the project include: $190,492 from LTF Funds (Bicycle Lane Account at CPO) 14,000 from CALTRANS Funds (Bicentennial Bicycle RoUte) 34,000 from City Revenue Sharing $238,492 3' The total cost of the project will include an additional $22,000 for property acquisition and $1 9,400 previously spent on Engineering. $424,400 or about $186,000 more than is budgeted. the project, additional funds must be made available. The above recitations are true and correct. 2. The bid of $382,902.15 by Sully-Miller Contracting Co. for Contract No. 1061A for the construction of the Coastal Bicycle Route is hereby accepted, and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute a contract therefor.
