Atty DEPARTMENT: Public Works C. Mgr. SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF MAGEE PARK - CONTRACT NO. 1069 STATEMENT OF THE MATTER The construction of Magee Park was previously approved. In fiscal year 1977-78, $68,000 from Federal Revenue Sharing Funds were designated for the project. These funds were carried over for fiscal year 1978-79 and have been requested to be carried over for fiscal year 1979-80. In the fiscal year 1978-79 budget, $100,000 was appropriated for landscaping. These funds have also been requested to be carried over for fiscal year / 1979-80. The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the plans and specifications on March 19, 1979, subject to Committee review, which was subsequently accomplished. All previously required conditions and requirements are included in the completed plans and specifications. - a- EXH I BITS 1. Memorandum to City Manager dated July 6, 1979. 2. Council Action: 7-17-79 Council adopted Resolution 5845, approving the plans and specs and authorizing the City Clerk to invite bids for the construction of Magee Park - Contract No. 1069. MEMORANDUM TO: City Manager FROM: Public Works Administrator DATE : July 6, 1979 SUBJECT: MAGEE PARK The following is a chronology of events concerning the even- tual development of Magee Park. May 21, 1974 City Council accepted the bequest of Florence Shipley Magee's property (Agenda Bill 3093). September 2, 1975 City Council approved staff to solicit proposals for restoration of Magee prop- erty (Agenda Bill 3462). April 28, 1976 Planning Commission adopted Planning Com- mission Resolution No. 1241 setting forth conditions for buildings, parking lot, landscaping, lighting, outside storage areas and street improvements. a master plan design (Agenda Bill 3552, Supplement 4). November 22, 1977 City Council acknowledged receipt of Planning Commission Resolution No. 1411 which determined a finding of General Plan conformity for the Magee Park land- scaping and street improvements. April 18, 1978 City Council approved a modified master plan design for $139,00O,less lawn bowling area, plus restroom, and directed staff to initiate action to obtain a design con- sultant for detailed plans and specifica- tions and to include necessary additional funds for project in fiscal year 1978-79 budget (Agenda Bill 3552, Supplement 7). July 5, 1977 City Council approved architect to prepare October 3, 1978 City Council approved design consultant November 7, 1978 City Council rejected request of Carlsbad Senior Citizens' Association to renovate barn into a food cooperative (Agenda Bill 3552, Supplement 9). -2- December 19, 1978 City Council conditionally authorized Carlsbad Historical Society to renovate barn (Agenda Bill 3552, Supplement 10). January 2, 1979 City Council accepted the proposal of the Carlsbad Historical Society for renova- tion of the barn (Agenda Bill 3552, Supple- ment 11). March 20, 1979 City Council approved request of Carlsbad Historical Society to move old City Hall/ Library/Church from Harding Street to Magee Park (Agenda Bill 5791). Ronald A. Beckman, P.E. Public Works Administrator @ RAB:JNE:VEB * 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 27 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 5845 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COgNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, IZING THE CITY CLERK TO INVITE BIDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION CALIFORNIA, APFROVIEG PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTIIOR- - OF MAGEE PARK - CONTRACT NO. 1069 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City‘of Carlsbad has determined it is necessary and in the public interest to construct Magee Park; and WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the furnishing of all labor, tools, material , equipment, transportation and other expenses necessary or incidental for said project, Contract No. 1069, have been prepared and are on file in the Public Works Department of the City of Carlsbad and are incorporated by refer- ence herein; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Ci’ty Council of the City of Carlsbad as follows: 1. 2. “The plans and specifications as presented are hereby approved. 3. The above recitations are true and correct. The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby authorized aFd directed to proceed to publish, in accordance with law, notice to contractors inviting bids for the construction of Magee Park in accordance with the plans and specifications hereinabove referred to.
