Atty. C. Mgr. Subject: Change of Letter Size Requirement for Fire Lane Signs Statement of 'the Matter In working with the new parking lane signs we find the 6" high letters are far too large for most sign areas. The required verbage in 6" high letters require a minimum sign of 30" x 30". The fire department has prepared an ordinance asking that because of the many types of buildings and fire lanes that the size of letters be determined on a site by site basis. Exhibit Ordinance No. 'gyp Recommendation If Council concurs, introduce Ordinance No.a12,2-6Z/` for first reading. Council Action: 7-.17-79 Council introduced Ordinance 2034, amending the Carlsbad Municipal Code to change the letter size requirement for Fire Lane Signs. 8-7-79 Council adopted Ordinance 2034. CARLSBAD FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM TO: CITY MANAGER DATE: 6-28-79 FROM: FIRE CHIEF SUBJECT: Fire Lanes/Signs With the adoption of our recent Ordinance #2033, dealing with Fire Lanes, the Ordinance specifies the lettering be 6 inches high. Ile are having problems with this as the 6 inch lettering with the required verbage would re- quire a sign far too large for most areas (301" x 3011). We have prepared an Agenda Bill and an Ordinance asking to delete the 6 inch high letters and replace with "adequate lettering as approved by the Fire Chief." Ja e.
