Under existing law, public works projects of special districts
are not required to be consistent with local general plans.
Cities review such projects,for consistency with the general
plan but special districts may construct projects even if not
consistent with local general plans. SB1627 would strengthen
the law to require such projects be consistent with local
general plans with certain specified or limited exceptions.
SB1627 would' significantly strengthen the ability of the City
to regulate the public works projects of special districts to
ensure compliance with the general plan.

Direct staff to prepare a letter for the Mayor's signature
supporting SB1627.
