IN THE R-P ZONE
Statement of the Matter
The City Council, at your June 3, 1980 meeting, directed
the City Attorney to prepare the necessary documents amending Title 21, Chapter 21.41, Section 21.41.070 of the Municipal Code by the amendment of Subsection (2) and by
the addition of Subsection (9) to allow an increase in
sign fees-in the R-P Zone. An ordinance in that regard is
attached.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
TITLE 21, CHAPTER 21.41, SECTION 21.41.070,
AMENDMENT OF SUBSECTION (2) AND BY THE
ADDITION OF SUBSECTION (9) TO ALLOW AN
INCREASE IN SIGN Ai';EAs IN THE R-P ZONE.
OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE
The City Council of the City of'carlsbad, California, does
ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: Title 21, Chapter 21.41, Section 21.41.070, of
the Carlsbad Municipal Code is amended by the amendment of
Subsection (2) and by the addition of Subsection (9) iQhicl.1 read
as follows:
"(2) Except for signs at freeway service facilities and real
estate signs, the total area of all ,signs on any one lot shall not exceed the following:

R-1, R-2, R-W, P-C with densities
corresponding to R-A through R-2
R-3, R-P (Residential), R-T, RD-M,
P-C with densities less restrictive
than R-2 (except hotels and motels)
R-P (office use), and motel and
hotels in residential zones
All other zones
TOTAL AREA OF ALL SIGNS
Two square feet
Twenty square feet
One square foot per lineal
foot of building frontage
located on the lot. The total area of all signs
shall not exceed 100 square feet except that the
Planning Commission may
approve up to 150 square feet of sign area as part o a site development plan
processed pursuant to
Chapter 21.06 of this Code.
One and five-tenths square
feet per lineal foot of
building frontage located on the lot.

(9) For motel and hotel uses as permitted in certain
residential- zones and office uses permitted in the R-P zone,
one freestanding sign is permitted per lot provided the following criteria are met:
(A) The sign shall be a monument sign, not greater
than 4 feet in height or 6 feet in length;
(B) The sign shall be located at least 15 feet from
any interior property line or corner of any access driveway;
(C) No portion of such sign shall extend over the public right-of-way;
(D) The aggregate sign area for the entire development
shall not exceed the sign area allowed for the development according. to the provisions of Table I-.''
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective
thirty days after its adoption, and the City Clerk shall
qertify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be
published at least once in the Carlsbad Journal within
fifteen days after its adoption.
INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ at a regular meeting of the
Carlsbad City Council held on the 17th day of June ?
1980 and thereafter
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of said City
Council held on the 1st day of Julv , 1980 by the
following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Packard, Casler, Anear, Lewis and Kulchin

ZONE CODE AMENDMENT 125
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Carlsbad City Counci will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 3, 1980 at
6:OO P.M. in the City Council Chambers, 1200 Elm Avenue,
Carlsbad, to consider approval of an amendment to the
zone code to revise the sign reqpirements for office uses
in the R-P zone.

7:OO P.M. on Wednesday, May 14, 1980, to consider approval of an amendment to the zone code to revise the sign require- ments for office uses in the R-P zone.
