DATE: August 19, 1980 Q A "\ DEPARTMENT: City Manager C. Mgr. Subject: COUNCIL POLICY NO. 2 - TRAVEL POLICY Statement of the Matter On June 19, 1979, page 4 of Council Policy No. 2 covering lodging and meals, was revised and a per diem limit of $58.00 was established. In light of the continuing increase in both lodging and meals, it might be timely to consider a change. As an example of these rising costs, the upcoming League of California Cities Annual Conference to be held in October, indicates a single room will cost approximately $55.00. In many instances persons on City business must attend meetings which include a set rate for the meals, thus cannot control the amount spent. An exception similar to existing one for conference meals could be made for conference lodging. A more reasonable per diem figure would be $80.00 but actual amounts spent should still be required on the travel sheet breakdown. Fiscal Impact Difference between present per diem rate and that established if Council authorizes a change. Exhibit Revised policy covering lodging and meals. Recommendation Adopt revised policy. Council Action: 8-19-80 Council adopted the revised policy. MEMORANDUM DATE: August 20, 1980 TO: City Council, City Manager, City Attorney, Department and Division Heads FROM: City Clerk RE: Travel Policy The City Council, at its meeting of August 19, 1980, revised Policy No. 2 to increase the per diem rate.
