DEPARTMENT: SUBJECT : EL CAMINO REAL & PALOMAR AfRPORf ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNALS & APPROACH IMPROVEMENTS STATEMENT OF THE MATTER On May 6, 1980, Council approved an agreement between the City and the County of San Diego for construction of traffic signals at El Camino Real and Palomar Airport Road and approved an appropriation in the 1980-81 Gas Tax budget of $63,500 in addition to the $21,000 which was budgeted in 1979-80. The County has designed and ddvertised for this project, and they are also handling the environmental clearances. There are two alternates. Alternate A . , includes approach improvements on Palomar Airport Road and traffic signal installation. Council previously indicated interest in this a1 ternate. 'Alternate 5 would represent a reduced cost alternate of signals only. The City owns three approaches to this intersec- tion; however, the County is.honoring a commitment to provide one-half of the funding for the signal installation itself (fiade when the intersection had only two approaches in the City). The low bidder on the project was Lekaunas Electric. This company has previously done satisfactory work for the City (construction of traffic signals at Palomar Airport Road and Paseo del Norte). 8 FISCAL IMPACT Total construction cost of Alternate A will be $131,830. The total cost of the project, including engineering and inspection, wi 11 be $149,620 with the City's share being $104,800. A total of $82,800 is for project costs and $22,000 for the City's share of project design, eoordination, inspection and contract administration. is $21,000 from continuing appropriations of the 1979-80 budget, $63,500 in the 1980-81 Gas Tax budget and $12,640 as the City's share of developer funding requiring an additional appropriation of $7,660 from Gas Tax funds. That Department of Finance Fund Transfer No. 22 on file in said de; partment and incorporated by reference herein is approved.
