SUBJECT : REQUEST FOR STOP SIGN ON GRAND AT OCEAN
INFORMATIONAL - TRAFF I C SAFETY COMM I SS I ON
STATEMENT OF THE MATTER
Mrs. Frances Dixon has appealed for a stop sign on Grand at Ocean. Her grounds for this
request appear to be:
1. Excessive turning speed of motorists turning the corner.
2. That the elderly have-difficulty crossing the street to the ocean.
3. That a mid-block crosswalk removed sometime ago entitles the residents of Carlsbad by
the Sea to some additional consideration.
Engineering staff has reviewed the intersection and found it meets no stop sign warrants.
The Traffic Safety Commission reviewed staff's recommendation and expressed extreme sym-
pathy with Mrs. Dixon.. However, the Commission unanimously con-
curred with staff's recommendations. The Commission felt that stop signs or.other traf-
fic devices placed without warrants leads to many such requests to be fulfilled on sym-
pathy grounds.
